master and station on wifi0 coexistance issue

Using madwifi svn 1491, I have problem in getting a single card to run both ap and sta.

wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode ap 
wlanconfig ath1 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode sta nosbeacon
iwconfig ath0 essid ssid channel 165 
ifconfig ath0 up

This is ok, but when I create a sta, the AP becomes unassociated ifconfig ath1 up

Start by using a more recent version of MadWifi, r1491 is stone-aged. Release 0.9.2 is a good starting point.

Hi, I've tried madwifi 0.9.2 as well but the problem persists.

What I would like to clarify is that, can madwifi enable both AP and sta running on the same card. What I want to do is to allow clients to connect to the AP mode on 1 channel as well as being able to do wireless scanning in sta mode (or connecting to another AP on a different channel).

Is that the right way to achieve what I intend? Is it possible to do this with the proposed method? Thanks!

The chipset only has one radio, so this is not possible. Scanning on different channels is achieved by hopping off channel for 200-300ms to listen for beacons/probe.

Using a different radio definately solves the problem. The thing is I remember having the 2 modes on 1 radio before and it works. And I read somewhere that there's another person having the same problem but I can't find the link to it now.

But does STA + AP work if you are using a single channel?

No I can't. Once the sta is brought up, the ap becomes disassociated...

the same old issue. its basicly not working but no one ever was able to give us the reason yet.

yes... i played around with the channels and bssids but i was not able to get it running. maybe my hardware isn't simply capable of doing that kind of setup. anyway, it would open up the possibility of that WDS stuff with one card

it works with no hardware. i tested everything from cm9 to atheros wisoc devices. with or without wds. as far as there is a second wds or sta interface to a ap interface, the ap will stop to work
