Madwifi behavior regarding Cell-ID‏

I would like to ask you about the madwifi driver behavior regarding the Cell-ID (IBSS in IEEE 802.11 standard).

I am working on Mesh nodes consist of Linux based desktop machines equipped with Wistron CM9 WLAN 802.11a/b/g/n mini‐PCI wireless cards (Atheros AR5213A). The Mandrake 10.2 and madwifi‐0.9.4 driver are installed on the machines. As I noticed when I configure the wireless interface using "iwconfig", the Cell-ID for some nodes may fail miserably to connect to a cell or have their own Cell-ID even if they are set up with the correct channel and wireless network name "ESSID". So I would like to understand how the Madwifi driver behaves regarding the cell-ID? or is there any debug in the Madwifi driver? and if there are some available solutions that fix this problem ? Since this sounds a little bit confusing for me.

Thanks for your help in advance.
