Performance problem with madwifi and hostapd

Hello, this is my config:

Debian 5 stable AR5414 madwifi hostapd

I have install this and everythink work. But only If I am at less a 5 meters of the AP :'( On the client, I have a very bad signal

How can I increese signal power?
