Very Particular Wifi Access Drops

Reported by: Snowman Assigned to: scottr
Priority: minor Milestone:
Component: madwifi: rate module 'minstrel' Version: trunk
Keywords: Cc:
Patch is attached: 0 Pending: 0

Description

I am running ubuntu 9.04 with kernel 2.6.31 and madwifi trunk r409x using minstrel data rate algorithm. My wifi randomly drops in certain places. I could be sitting on the couch and get a signal but have no internet traffic going and then lift up my laptop 6 inches and then the pages would load... I run a dual boot and XP works just fine in that same situation.

This is probably better suited for the madwifi users mailing list, and will probably be closed soon for just that reason.

So, I'd suggest posting this question there.

In the meantime, check your antenna diversity settings. Sounds like you've found a multipath null in your home. Getting a signal, but not getting two-way traffic, sounds like you may have diversity on receive, but are locked to a specific antenna for transmit. The wiki page on diversity is excellent:
