Description (Last modified by mrenzmann)

I'm using a Debian Lenny/Unstable/Experimental with a kernel 2.6.24. My laptop is an EasyNote MX51-B-056.

An lspci give me:

01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)

I try 2 versions of MadWifi : 0.9.4 and the snapshot of the ng version of the 17 april. I've the same poblem.

My link with switch is very unstable. At one time, my browser can't contact the internet and a ping give a net is unreachebale. I can work with my network during few minutes or just for one second. To "resolve" the problem, I make a ifdown ath0 && ifup ath0. But sometimes, this operation freeze my computer.

What is the link quality (check via iwconfig while being associated to your AP)? Please give details about your WLAN setup (vendor and name of your AP, does it make use of any encryption, which version of wpa_supplicant do you use, stuff like that).

My AP is a D-Link DI-624 with a firmware 4.04 beta (the last aviable). I use a psk/wpa2, the channel is 1 and the encryption is AES_CCMP. The version of wpa_supplicant is a v0.6.3 My computer is very close to my ap 1-2 meters. I had this problem with the kernel 2.6.22 and the old stable version but, it's was not so blocking and I never had system crash.

Just after posting this ticket, I see the howto-Debug-Madwifi. I try a full debug. During the night of the 21-22. I work during more of one hour without troubles and after had tree "connections close" in one half hour. During the night of the 22-23. It was more harder, I had 2 "connections close" and 1 system crash. The system crash arrived when I woud capture packet whit wireshark for a second time. Now, it's work and it's more of one hour. I must still "clear logs" and find the exact hour of the craches. I will make it during the day and I will attach a tarball with all files and informations.

I had looking into the madwifi's logs and it was very difficult to understand all the informations and find something abnormal for me all the informations is abnormal.

I would know the log product by an ifdown and an ifup to find the lastes operations before my ifdown.

The AR5007 seems to be a special case for MadWifi. Try with the information on:

clizana.wordpress.com/2008/04/21/por-fin

(they link to a better specific madwifi version)
