working by 'firsttimehowto', iwconfig command doesnt list ath0 and wifi0

well i have ubuntu 7.10, and having toshiba satellite laptop. with a wireless connection.

after handling problems like 'build-essentials' and linux-headers for 386

i dont see the list of devices expected on iwconfig command. no ath0 or wifi0 devices.

the make and make install commands finally succided

Blind guess: run the following command after MadWifi has been loaded:

dmesg | grep "HAL error"

I suppose it yields something like "Hardware revision not supported (HAL error 13)", which means just that: your card is not supported by the version of MadWifi you've tried. There are several options how to respond to that case, but to help further we'd need to know as exactly as possible which WLAN card you have (vendor, model, and the output of lspci -nntv).
