Description

I have a desktop computer running Gentoo Linux with PCI Wi-Fi adapter D-Link DWL-G520 which is listed in lspci as the following: 00:10.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01). To get card working I use kernel 2.6.22-gentoo-r6 with madwifi-ng-0.9.3.2 driver. dmesg part about Wi-Fi adapter:

Hostapd daemon is configured to provide WPA-PSK Wi-Fi service. hostapd.conf:

So I wonder where is the bug. I searched madwifi.org for a while but couldn't find a similar problem, sorry if it already was discussed. Maybe some additional info is needed?

Should I try exactly the 2508 revision?

Replying to mrenzmann:

Upgrade your svn snapshot to r2708 and try again.

btw. why this change is only done for ieee80211_decap and not for ieee80211_encap too?

I mean r2708 of course, not 2508.

I've the same problem with last madwifi snapshot, and using 2.6.24.7 linux kernel, the configuration seems to be ok, but something failed silently. May be a kernel module missing, or something.

It failed when using WPA, or WPA2 mode, the clearer error is: Could not set station <...> flags for kernel driver (errno=29).

Theses functions are in the madwifi driver, and not is the mainstream kernel. So may be a module is missing... But debugging that is quite impossible...

Using the good password or a bad password generate the same problem. So hostapd seems to always fail, and generate no usable verbose, and the client blacklist the ap...

Try:

wme_enabled=0

in hostapd.conf

Replying to anonymous:

Try: {{{ wme_enabled=0 }}} in hostapd.conf

yes, now it works.

GREAT!

Why does that work? What the heck is wme_enabled

WME = Wireless Multimedia Extensions WMM = WiFi Multimedia

Fixed my problem, but that wasn't even a variable in the config and it's not well defined (or really defined at all) in the hostapd docs.

... thanks for the fix
