poor signal strength on DLink DWG-650 wifi PC-Card

Description

Currently unable to get better then 30% signal using madiwif driver in conjunction with NetworkManager-Gnome in Fedora Core 6. Same problem also appears in Ubuntu support forums. Not just reporting incorrect as frequent disconnects are also occurring during periods of high traffic consistent with poor signal.

Is that issue reproducable with the v0.9.3 and/or trunk, too? Can you please post the output of "iwconfig ath0" in a situation where Network Manager reports 30% signal strength?

I have the same problem with an Askey WLL3090 (AR5BMB5), NetworkManager reports around 30% with trunk build on 2.6.23. iwconfig on wlan1 gives:

Looking again at this issue I have to wonder whether the signal strength figures as given by NetworkManager have much in common with reality. The same connection shown in eg. the Gnome network interface monitor applet shows a 'Signal Strength' of around 70%. As signal strength is not exactly well defined it might be better to refer to RSSI for estimating signal strength. The RSSI on this connection is usually somewhere around 20 which is not exactly splendid but quite useable. I think NetworkManager and Madwifi just have agreed to disagree on how to report signal strength.
